As promised on last weeks blog Rebecca and Dave’s Headboard, here is the story of there Super Sexy sofa.
While we were designing and planning the new headboard, we also discussed possibly recovering and old, old sofa that Dave had inherited.
Rebecca and Dave gave us pretty much Carte Blanche on this (With final approval going to them of course) ……but still.
When it comes to these really ornate, older pieces, sexing it up a bit is a favourite option of ours. We knew that Rebecca really liked this particular super dark, Navy Blue velvet from Joanne Fabrics, so the thought was to give it a HOT monochromatic look and upholster the couch with the velvet and have all the wood painted out in a colour that matched.
In my opinion, nothing is sexier and cooler than a nice deep, rich Navy Blue. Makes my heart flutter.
First things first…
Once it was all taken apart, we sent the wood pieces out to Paint It Like New! to be sprayed. (HI GIRLS!! :D)
Meanwhile, Matt gets to work on the upholstery portion.
Once the wood is back from Paint It Like New! and the other pieces are upholstered, it’s time to put it all back together.
While upholstering, the staples sometimes scratch the paint finish so it needed a little touch up.
Turns out that Dave has a family Tartan. So we hunted around and found a great matching tartan from The Wool House here on Queen Street that fit the bill and we wrapped it around the sides and back. Nice ya?
I honestly and truly did NOT want to give it back to them. This sofa attracted SOOOO much attention in the store. I miss it *sniff sniff*
But here it is all happy in it’s new home.
